Kandhamal district in Odisha continued to reel under intense cold and dense fog on Wednesday, as temperatures remained below 15°C across several regions. The persistent winter conditions have disrupted daily activities, particularly during the early morning hours.
According to official data, Daringbadi recorded a minimum temperature of 11.5°C on Tuesday, while G. Udayagiri registered 12.4°C and Phulbani reported 15°C. Although cloudy skies offered slight relief, cold winds coupled with thick fog made movement difficult for residents.
Visibility dropped sharply in many areas, affecting vehicular traffic. In several locations, the fog became so dense that people could barely see as far as 5 to 6 metres. Reports indicate that heavy fog has continued to blanket parts of the district until around 10:00 a.m. each day.
The combination of low visibility and chilly conditions has raised concerns over road safety, especially during peak morning travel hours. Even as clouds linger through the day, temperatures fall rapidly after sunset, causing the cold wave to extend late into the night and early morning.
In response to the harsh weather, many residents have begun gathering around bonfires for warmth. Others are stepping out for light exercise to stay active while adapting to the winter chill.
