Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala on Alert as COVID Cases Rise Again

After months of decline, COVID-19 infections are making a comeback in India, with major urban centres like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kerala witnessing a surge in cases.

The resurgence is primarily linked to the JN.1 variant, a sub-variant of Omicron, which experts say is highly active but not classified as a “variant of concern” by the World Health Organisation.

Delhi, reporting 23 new cases, has directed hospitals to prepare beds, oxygen cylinders, and vaccines. Kerala leads the tally with 273 infections this month, prompting authorities to mandate masks in hospitals and urge symptom monitoring. Meanwhile, Mumbai has logged 95 cases, though hospitalisations remain minimal.

Despite the rise in numbers, health officials have reassured the public that most infections are mild and do not pose a severe threat. However, states are ramping up precautionary measures, emphasising testing and vaccination drives to curb further spread.

As India navigates this fresh wave, medical experts advise vigilance without panic, encouraging residents to adhere to basic COVID-19 protocols and remain informed about evolving health guidelines.
