Cyclone Montha continues to gather strength over the Bay of Bengal, prompting Odisha’s Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari to warn that nearly 15 districts may face severe impact.

He highlighted that southern and coastal regions remain especially vulnerable.

Currently, the depression lies 1,040 km southeast of Gopalpur and 990 km southeast of Visakhapatnam. Meteorologists expect it to intensify into a deep depression by tomorrow and transform into a cyclone by October 27. Although forecasts remain uncertain, officials are preparing for possible landfall along the Andhra coast.

Meanwhile, Paradip authorities have issued a cyclone alert. The Fisheries Department and Marine Police have launched awareness campaigns using loudspeakers to warn fishermen and coastal residents. They have covered key areas including Nehru Bungalow Fishing Harbour, Atharabanki, Sandhakuda, Nuabazar, and Chaumuhani.

Officials have advised fishermen to avoid entering the sea until October 29. Those currently at sea must return immediately. In response, the administration has activated emergency protocols and alerted departments such as Water Resources, Panchayati Raj, Agriculture, and Energy.

Minister Pujari confirmed that the government has taken all necessary precautions based on previous cyclone experiences. He assured that authorities will provide cooked food to anyone stranded due to flooding or isolation.

As Cyclone Montha in Odisha gains momentum, the government continues to monitor its trajectory. Even if the storm shifts direction, officials remain ready to respond. Through coordinated efforts and timely warnings, Odisha aims to minimize damage and protect its citizens.
