Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP Abhay has advised the people to remain alert as cybercrime is on the rise amid this ongoing COVID-19 situation and fraudsters are swindling money on the pretext of slot bookings for vaccinations, oxygen, tele-medicines, etc.
The DGP urged the people of the state to be vigilant and not to divulge information if they do not believe the caller.
“Stay away from fake registration portals claiming for slot booking for vaccination. There are three authenticate portals for registering for COVID-19 vaccination which are CoWIN, Aarogya Setu, and Umang portals,” said Police DG Abhay at a press conference on the COVID-19 situation in the state.
DGP Abhay advised people to be vigilant before buying items from e-commerce sites and medicines from online sites as some fraudulent organizations are cheating people through social media by stealing their private data.
“Always wear a mask while leaving the house, maintain social distancing, and don’t create crowd at any place unnecessarily. Enforcement teams are taking strict actions against those found flouting Covid norms,” the Police DG said.
Odisha Police is taking stern actions against violators of COVID guidelines. Since April 1, more than 3 lakh people in the state have been charged with Covid norms violation and over Rs 4.35 crores collected from them as fines,” the police DG said and, added that, as many as 2,180 shops were sealed off and 24,17 vehicles were seized for flouting guidelines.
