The Cyber Police Station of Cuttack has arrested one Satyajit Nayak (24), a resident of Khuntakata village in Dhenkanal district, for orchestrating a fake job appointment scam.
The accused allegedly defrauded over eight individuals by promising them government jobs and issuing counterfeit appointment letters.
According to the press note issued by the Cuttack Police Commissionerate, the case (No. 56 dated 24.07.25) was registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act. The scam came to light when a complainant approached the Collector’s Office with an appointment letter for a Junior Assistant post, only to discover it was fake. She had already paid over Rs 3 lakhs to the accused.
Upon investigation, Nayak was found to have collected money from other victims using similar tactics. Police seized two mobile phones, two fake SIM cards, and froze Rs 41,800 across two of his bank accounts. He was arrested on July 26 and will be forwarded to court.
Authorities have advised the public to be cautious and verify any job offers, especially those demanding advance payments. All legitimate government appointments are strictly processed through formal recruitment channels.
The Cyber PS team continues its investigation to identify potential accomplices and recover further fraudulent funds.
