The district administration of Cuttack celebrates ‘Cuttack Dahibara Aloodum Day’ today, honouring the city’s most iconic street delicacy — dahibara aludam.
Now in its second year, the festival is held at the Lower Baliyatra Ground and attracts thousands of food lovers from across the region.
Celebrating Cuttack’s Culinary Identity
More than 50 popular dahibara vendors from different parts of the city set up dedicated stalls, recreating the authentic street-style experience that defines the dish’s charm.
Officials say the initiative aims to promote Cuttack’s signature delicacy at both state and national levels, positioning it as a culinary symbol of Odisha.
District Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde describes dahibara aludam as more than just food.
“Dahibara aludam is not just food, it is an emotion and part of Cuttack’s identity. Through Dahibara Divas, we want to recognise the hard work of our local vendors.”
He adds that such initiatives help boost tourism and strengthen the local economy by spotlighting traditional cuisine.
Cultural Events and Community Participation
In addition to food stalls, organisers host:
-
A special selfie zone for visitors
-
Cultural programmes and performances
-
Traditional-style vendor setups
The event brings together residents, tourists, and food enthusiasts in a celebration of local heritage.
Vendors Welcome Recognition
Cuttack Dahibara Aludam Association president Praditpa Behera expresses gratitude to the district administration for formally recognising the dish.
He says the celebration inspires the younger generation to preserve and carry forward Cuttack’s culinary legacy.
A Festival Rooted in Tradition
Dahibara aludam — a combination of lentil dumplings soaked in spiced curd and served with spicy potato curry — remains synonymous with Cuttack’s street food culture.
With structured promotion and community participation, the city elevates this beloved dish onto a larger culinary stage today.
