In a heart-wrenching twist of fate, a couple from Nayagarh lost their lives in a fatal car-truck collision near Rambhikata Toll Gate on National Highway 57 in Odisha’s Boudh district.
The couple was en route to perform the last rites of the husband’s deceased father.
According to reports, Raj Kishore Sahu (57), a science teacher at Kumurukuri High School in Nuapada district, and his wife Meenakshi Sahu (51) were travelling in their private car (OD 26E6475) from Kumurukuri to their native village Gania in Nayagarh. They had received news of Raj Kishore’s father’s death and were heading to witness the final rites and perform the traditional mukhagni.
Tragically, their journey ended abruptly when their vehicle collided head-on with a stationary truck near Rambhikata Toll Gate under Boudh Adarsha Police limits. Local residents immediately rushed to the scene and transported the severely injured couple to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared both dead on arrival.
Boudh Adarsha police reached the scene, initiated an investigation, and confirmed that the vehicle lost control before ramming into the truck. The bodies will be handed over to the family after post-mortem formalities are completed.
The incident has left the community in mourning, not only for the elder Sahu’s passing but for the devastating loss of his son and daughter-in-law on the same day.
