A large group of women from Raikelaposh village in Kuliposh panchayat have filed a formal complaint with the Lahunipara police station and Sub-District Collector Bonai, urging a thorough investigation into the recovery of a half-burnt body of a married woman near a canal.
The deceased, identified as Phulmani Munda (30), wife of Turi Munda (43), was reported missing on Wednesday around 4 PM. Despite the family’s search efforts, her whereabouts remained unknown until Thursday morning, when villagers discovered her half-burnt body on the canal bank. The police promptly recovered the body and sent it to Bonai Hospital for an autopsy. On Friday, the body was handed over to her family.
Authorities have registered a murder case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that Phulmani was killed in a premeditated manner, set on fire, and abandoned in a secluded area near the canal. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, with former Zilla Parishad Deputy Chairperson Saraswati Naik, Kuliposh Sarpanch Lilabati Naik, and Zilla Parishad member Juliani Kandir leading the charge for justice alongside over 50 women from the village.
The case has drawn significant attention, with locals demanding transparency and accountability as the investigation unfolds.
