The Commissionerate Police has beefed up security for the Zero Night and New Year celebrations in Bhubaneswar and all arrangements are in place to avoid any untoward incidents, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Pinak Mishra today.
During the Zero Night celebration, attention will be paid to how there is no chaos. Much importance will be given to ‘drunk and drive’. Therefore, while the Commissionerate Police is vigilant and aware of this, Bhubaneswar DCP has appealed to the public to be vigilant as many accident cases due to drunken driving have come to the fore in the past.
“The Commissionerate Police will have a zero-tolerance policy during Zero Night. Celebrate, but do not commit crimes, said Commissioner of Police S. Devdutt Singh on Christmas Day.
Today, DCP Pinak Mishra said, “Celebrate the New Year, but do not drive under the influence of alcohol as the Commissionerate Police will not tolerate any nuisance and strict action will be taken. There will be CCTV surveillance throughout Bhubaneswar. Emphasis will be placed on preventing incidents. Those who celebrate or party in public places are required to obtain permission from the authorities concerned.”
“The Commissionerate Police is keeping a close watch on the smuggling of liquor. Joint raids will be conducted in separate places by the Excise Department while blocking all major roads at night, MV checking, and raids on illegal liquor will be carried out. All police stations have been ordered to conduct checks,” the DCP added.
The Commissionerate Police has urged the public to celebrate the New Year with enthusiasm and in a mannered way.
“There will be strong action against addicts. Permission has been given for the Zero Night celebration in some hotels and vacant places. Discussions have been completed with the Excise Department. The Twin City Police is fully prepared to maintain law and order, the Commissionerate Police has said.
Similarly, security arrangements will be tightened in the Twin City of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar for Zero Night and New Year celebration and a large force will be deployed, the Police Commissioner informed.
