The cold wave sweeping across Odisha has disrupted normal life, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the chill will continue for another week.
According to IMD reports, temperatures have plummeted across coastal, western, northern, and southern Odisha. Koraput’s Damanjodi recorded a minimum temperature of 3°C, while G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal district registered 3.1°C. In Daringbadi, heavy frost accompanied the biting cold.
The forecast indicates that hilly regions may see temperatures drop below 5°C, while other parts of the state will also experience a sharp fall in mercury. Dense fog is expected to affect visibility along national highways.
Jharsuguda reported bone-chilling cold, with the temperature recorded at 8.8°C at 5:30 AM. G. Udayagiri, often referred to as the “Darjeeling of Odisha,” has been reeling under severe cold for the past two weeks, leaving residents distressed.
As evening approaches, icy winds force people indoors, and streets in towns and cities wear a deserted look. On Saturday morning, IMD recorded minimum temperatures of 3.1°C in G. Udayagiri, 5.5°C in Phulbani, and 5.6°C in Daringbadi.
