A cultural evening turned into a nightmare late Friday night as a coconut tree fell on the audience during a Ram Leela performance in Balarampur village under Kujang police limits.
The tragic incident led to the death of Kuni Das (34), a resident of Samagol village, and injured five others, including a nine-year-old minor girl.
Eyewitnesses reported that the tree collapsed unexpectedly near the stage where the Ram Leela was being enacted. The injured individuals were rushed to nearby medical facilities, with two critically injured being shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for specialised treatment.
In light of the tragedy, the performance was halted, and authorities initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The community mourns the loss and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured.
