Amid growing concerns over Odisha’s cholera and diarrhoea outbreak, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) launched a surprise inspection targeting hotels and eateries near Cuttack Railway Station on Tuesday.
The crackdown resulted in the sealing of two hotels after officials found severe hygiene lapses, including poor water quality and substandard food preparation.
Public health teams seized multiple food samples for testing while flagging sanitation violations at several establishments in the Station Bazar area. Officials stated that the move was crucial in preventing further disease transmission, particularly in the wake of recent diarrhoea outbreaks reported in nearby Choudwar.
CMC’s actions follow similar raids by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, which uncovered expired food items and unhygienic cooking conditions around key city hotspots. Health authorities urge vigilance as cholera cases continue to rise, with six districts now affected by the outbreak.
