Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi held discussions today at Lok Seva Bhavan with representatives of ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank, advising them to extend more loans under various welfare schemes for the poor.

He pointed out that the performance of these private banks in Odisha has been unsatisfactory, particularly in schemes such as agricultural loans, PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), PM SVANidhi, Stand-Up India, housing loans, education loans, and export credit. Citing their poor involvement, the state government had on June 21, 2025, removed these banks from its Empanelled List.

The Chief Minister emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is implementing numerous poverty alleviation schemes. He said the state’s goal is to integrate poor citizens into the financial ecosystem through loans, boosting their livelihoods and income generation.

Majhi noted that these three banks play a crucial role in delivering such schemes, but their low loan disbursement in Odisha is a matter of concern. He advised them to increase outreach and credit support to eligible beneficiaries.

The bank officials responded positively to the CM’s advice and assured him that they are keen to improve their performance and will ensure better loan coverage under welfare schemes soon.

The Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Shri Shashwat Mishra briefed the meeting on the current performance data of the banks.

Participants:

  • From Axis Bank: Executive Director Shri Munish Sarada, Govt. Business Country Head Shri Anil Agrawal, East Regional Head Shri Saurabh Dutta

  • From HDFC Bank: Country Head Smita Bhagat, East Head of Branch Banking Shri Sandeep Kumar, Regional Head Shri Deepak Singh

  • From ICICI Bank: Business Head Shri Sumit Mehrotra, Odisha City Business Head Shri Binod L., Regional Head Shri Amiya Nayak
