The 56th meeting of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is set to begin tomorrow in New Delhi, with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presiding over the two-day session.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has arrived in the capital to participate in the meeting as a member of the Council, given his responsibility over the state’s Finance Department.

Scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, the meeting will focus on improving GST administration and addressing various demands raised by participating states. CM Majhi is expected to present Odisha’s proposals and concerns, including measures for smoother GST implementation and revenue optimization.

The GST Council, comprising finance ministers from all states and union territories, serves as the apex decision-making body for indirect taxation in India. The 56th session is anticipated to deliberate on compliance simplification, rate rationalization, and digital integration of tax systems.

CM Majhi’s presence underscores Odisha’s active role in shaping national tax policy and advocating for state-specific fiscal priorities.
