A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Panchada Sebashram in Laxhmipur block of Koraput district, where a Class 8 tribal student, Abhilash Saunta, was allegedly tied up and brutally assaulted by four fellow students.
The attack left him seriously injured and undergoing treatment at Laxhmipur Medical Center.
Sources reveal that the student was initially admitted to Kakiriguma Health Centre before being shifted due to the severity of his condition. The assault reportedly took place inside the school hostel, where the victim was tied by his hands and feet and beaten mercilessly on his face and back.
Fearing further threats, the injured student fled the hostel and was later found sitting alone by the roadside by an auto driver, who helped him reach medical care. The boy, a resident of Lachmani village, was studying at the Panchada Sebashram and had informed his family about the incident.
Upon learning of the attack, the victim’s guardians confronted the school’s headmaster, Sunil Kumar Burudi, who allegedly dismissed the matter without due concern. The family later shifted the student to Lakshmipur Medical with ambulance support.
This incident is not isolated. Reports suggest that Panchada Sebashram has witnessed multiple violent episodes over the past year, including fights involving intoxicated students and even near-fatal assaults. Despite investigations, no concrete action has been taken, and many such cases are allegedly suppressed within the school premises.
Local residents and activists are now demanding a thorough probe by the district administration and strict action against the school authorities for repeated negligence and failure to ensure student safety.
