The Khandagiri Magha Mela began with high drama as two of Odisha’s biggest jatra stars, Piyush Tripathy and Daitari Panda, prepared for a fierce showdown on the very first evening.
Organisers confirmed that nearly 15 jatra troupes will perform until February 7, promising a festival of entertainment and rivalry. On the opening night, troupes like Singhbahini, Konark, and Ashok Samrat staged their hit plays, drawing large crowds eager to witness the competition.
Ticket sales started early in the morning, and fans rushed to secure seats. Each committee received permission for 2,500 seats, ensuring controlled entry and crowd management. Commissionerate Police issued 14 strict guidelines for the mela, including a ban on item girls at Khandagiri performances.
The highlight of the evening centred on the much-anticipated duel between “Jatra Bad Boy” Piyush Tripathy and “Jatra Tiger” Daitari Panda. Their rivalry set the stage for intense competition, with audiences waiting eagerly to see who would dominate the spotlight.
The Magha Mela continues to hold cultural significance in Bhubaneswar, blending tradition with modern entertainment. Jatra lovers expressed excitement and anticipation, ready to enjoy nights filled with drama, music, and theatrical battles.
