The Puri district administration has restricted boat services in Chilika Lake till 11 a.m. every day due to dense fog and reduced visibility.
The order applies to all forms of water transport, including tourist boats, small motorboats, cargo boats, and floating bridges.
Puri Collector announced that no boats will operate in Chilika Lake during morning hours until further notice. Authorities cited sharply reduced visibility as the reason for the restriction, stressing the need to protect lives.
The move follows a tragic incident earlier this week when a floating bridge got stuck in the middle of the lake due to poor visibility. One person fell into the water and lost his life, prompting the administration to adopt strict safety measures.
Police and local officials have been instructed to enforce the restrictions. Public announcement systems are being used to alert residents and boat operators. The Collector warned that strict action will be taken against violators.
Formal communication has been sent to the Puri Superintendent of Police, the Chilika Development Authority, the Additional Director of Puri Tourism, and the Konark Tourism Development Officer.
