In an unexpected incident, the Chennai-New Jalpaiguri train was brought to a halt at Sabira railway station in Balasore on Saturday after its engine’s battery box fell off. Thanks to the timely actions of the loco pilot, all passengers are safe and unharmed.
The incident occurred around 2:42 PM when the train was en route from Chennai to New Jalpaiguri.
According to reports, the battery box detached from the engine, leading the loco pilot to press the emergency brake. This quick decision ensured the safety of all passengers onboard.
Repair work on the engine’s battery box is currently underway, and the train is expected to resume its journey once the repairs are completed.
According to SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 22861 New Jalpaiguri-Chennai Central Express was detained between Soro and Markona of Kharagpur Division due to Loco trouble from 14.45 hrs today on 22.02.2025. There was no derailment and no injury of passengers.
The Loco (engine) of the train was hit by an object lying on the track and could not move any further. An alternative loco was arranged and the train departed at 18.23 hrs. All necessary safety measures were taken by Railways and thorough checking of the Loco was done before the departure of the train, the SER said.
As a result of the incident, the following trains were regulated:
- 12245 Howrah-SMVT Bengaluru Express was detained between Soro-Markona
- 68051 Baleshwar-Bhadrak MEMU was detained at Soro
- 18045 Shalimar-Hyderabad East Coast Express was detained at Baleshwar
- 20889 Howrah-Tirupati Express was detained at Rupsa
