Chelsea delivered a commanding performance at Stamford Bridge, thrashing Barcelona 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League and moving closer to direct qualification for the round of 16.
The match began with intensity, and Barcelona’s night quickly unravelled. After just 27 minutes, Marc Cucurella’s cross created chaos in the box, leading Jules Kounde to score an own goal. Soon after, Ronald Araujo received a second yellow card for a clumsy foul, leaving Barcelona with ten men before halftime.
Chelsea capitalised on the advantage. Teenager Estevao stole the spotlight with a stunning strike, driving past defenders and unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net. “Since I started playing professional football, I think this is the best moment for me. I am so happy,” Estevao said, reflecting on his breakthrough performance.
Meanwhile, Barcelona struggled to maintain possession and looked far from its dominant past. Ferran Torres missed their only clear chance early in the game, blazing wide with the goal gaping. Chelsea continued to press, and although three goals were disallowed, the Londoners never lost control.
In the second half, Liam Delap added Chelsea’s third, finishing a precise cross from Enzo Fernandez. His first goal of the season sealed a night of celebration for the Blues. Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal endured a frustrating evening, failing to make an impact before being substituted with 12 minutes remaining.
Ultimately, Chelsea’s victory lifted them into the top eight automatic qualifying spots, with fixtures against Pafos, Atalanta, and Napoli ahead. Conversely, Barcelona now faces a tough battle to avoid the playoffs, needing crucial points against Eintracht Frankfurt, Slavia Prague, and FC Copenhagen.
