The Centre has approved Y-category armed security cover for Amit Jani, the producer of the film ‘Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder’, in both Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be responsible for Jani’s security. Under Y-category security, a team of 8 to 11 personnel, including armed commandos, provides 24×7 protection.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Amit Jani expressed gratitude, stating, “Heartfelt thanks to Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji and Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for providing Y-category security from the Centre.”
The producer recently made headlines after the Delhi High Court ordered a stay on the release of the controversial film on July 11. Jani has since announced plans to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict.
The movie is based on the 2022 murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The gruesome killing by two men, allegedly angered over Lal’s social media post supporting ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, had sparked nationwide outrage and highlighted concerns over radicalisation and communal violence.
