In a groundbreaking move to elevate mental health treatment in eastern India, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has inaugurated its Centre for Neuromodulation Services under the Department of Psychiatry.
This advanced facility is designed to offer cutting-edge, non-invasive brain stimulation therapies to patients suffering from drug-resistant and difficult-to-treat psychiatric disorders.
The centre was formally inaugurated by Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, who hailed the initiative as a “landmark achievement” that aligns with the institute’s mission to deliver world-class medical technologies to the region.
Equipped with state-of-the-art technologies such as Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), Ultra-brief Pulse Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and Transcranial Electrical Stimulation (TES), the centre aims to provide targeted treatment for a wide range of mental health, substance use, and neuropsychiatric conditions. These therapies focus on modulating specific brain circuits, offering faster recovery and improved outcomes compared to conventional methods.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior faculty and officials including Dr. Prashant R. Mohapatra (Dean), Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida (Medical Superintendent), Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar (DDA), and Dr. Biswa Ranjan Mishra (Head, Department of Psychiatry), along with other distinguished faculty members.
Dr. Mishra emphasized the transformative potential of the centre, stating, “This facility will be a beacon of hope, providing cutting-edge treatment options for individuals who have struggled to find relief through conventional methods.”
Now fully operational, the Centre for Neuromodulation Services is poised to become a hub for both clinical care and research, significantly enhancing the scope and quality of psychiatric treatment in Odisha and beyond.
