In a swift anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Security Inspector of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a fellow employee.
The accused, posted at the Orient Area in Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda, was caught red-handed on Thursday while accepting the bribe.
According to the CBI, the inspector had demanded the money in exchange for allotting Sunday duty to the complainant on a rotational basis – a seemingly small administrative favour that came with a hidden price tag.
The case was registered on the same day following a complaint from the affected MCL employee. CBI officials immediately laid a trap and nabbed the accused while he was accepting the bribe amount. The officer will be produced before a competent court on Friday.“Further investigation is underway,” the CBI stated in its official press release.
