The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has concluded that the upcoming film Dhurandhar bears no connection to the life of Ashoka Chakra awardee Major Mohit Sharma, following a fresh examination directed by the Delhi High Court.
The review was prompted after Major Sharma’s parents raised objections, concerned that the film might depict aspects of his life. However, the CBFC has rejected these claims, reaffirming that Dhurandhar is a work of fiction.
CBFC Findings
In its reconsideration, the CBFC examined whether the film, in any manner, directly or indirectly reflects Major Sharma’s life, service, or experiences. The Board confirmed that:
-
The film has no factual or biographical connection to Major Sharma.
-
All characters, events, and storylines are entirely fictitious, with a clear disclaimer stating that no real individuals are depicted.
-
No consultation with the Indian Army was necessary, as the film does not portray any actual officer or military operation.
The Examining Committee had previously reviewed the film on November 28, 2025, and deemed it suitable for adult certification with minor modifications. After the High Court’s directive, the CBFC revisited the matter but found no reason to alter its original conclusion.
Court Proceedings
During the High Court hearing, the CBFC’s counsel clarified that the certification process was ongoing. Justice Sachin Datta noted that the petitioners had not provided concrete evidence showing that the film mirrored Major Sharma’s life, as only the trailer had been made public. The Court directed the CBFC to consider the objections before final certification, which has now been completed.
