Authorities in Titlagarh subdivision of Bolangir district intercepted cattle transport operations on Saturday, following reports of large-scale movement of cows from the region.
Local administration, Titlagarh MLA Naveen Jain, members of the Shri Ram Gosheba Samiti, and villagers jointly stopped the transport near Sihini under Titlagarh block. Police reached the spot and began an investigation into the matter.
Reports indicated that every Saturday, thousands of cattle were being moved from Titlagarh subdivision to a specific town in Andhra Pradesh. Allegations suggest that the animals were slaughtered there, and beef was transported further.
Two days earlier, the Shri Ram Go-Seva Samiti had formally alerted the Titlagarh Sub-Collector and district administration about the issue. Acting on the information, officials prepared in advance and intercepted the cattle transport today.
Sub-Collector Padmanabh Samantaray confirmed that all persons involved in the transport would face arrest. He added that the administration would take custody of the cattle to ensure their safety.
