An ambulance and a BSF Bolero collided head-on at Topayodi Square on National Highway 326 near Baipariguda, leaving two men critically injured.
The crash occurred around 6:30 PM when the ambulance, returning to Visakhapatnam after dropping a patient at Kalimela, met a Bolero carrying three BSF jawans heading toward Balimela. The impact severely injured ambulance driver P. Akash, who suffered a deep wound on his arm, and BSF jawan Jagannath Biswas, who sustained a head injury.
Both victims were immediately shifted to Jeypore District Medical Hospital in critical condition. Police officials, including ASI Bulu Sadhu and his team from Baipariguda station, reached the site and began an investigation.
The accident disrupted traffic briefly on the busy highway. Authorities confirmed that the other jawans inside the Bolero escaped without major injuries. The ambulance accident highlights the recurring dangers on Odisha’s highways, where emergency vehicles and security convoys often share narrow stretches.
Local residents gathered at the scene, expressing concern over frequent collisions in the area. Police assured a strict investigation to determine responsibility and emphasised the need for cautious driving on the national highway.
