BSF Jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in Pakistani custody since April 23, was officially handed over to Indian authorities today at the Joint Check Post, Attari, Amritsar, around 10:30 AM.
The handover was conducted smoothly, following established diplomatic protocols between the two nations.
Shaw was apprehended by the Pakistan Rangers after allegedly crossing the international border near Firozpur. His return marks the successful conclusion of negotiations between Indian and Pakistani officials, ensuring his safe release.
Efforts to secure Shaw’s return gained momentum in the past weeks, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assuring his family that steps were being taken at the highest level to bring him back. His wife, Rajni Shaw, had been actively advocating for his release, urging authorities to expedite the process.
The BSF has confirmed that Shaw will undergo routine medical examinations and debriefing before reuniting with his family. His return is a relief to his loved ones, as well as to those who followed the developments closely.
