In a swift and forceful retaliation to unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistan Rangers on Friday night, the Border Security Force (BSF) confirmed on Saturday that it destroyed a terrorist launch pad in Looni, located in Pakistan’s Sialkot district, opposite the Akhnoor sector of Jammu.
The exchange of fire began around 9:00 pm on May 9, when Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and opened fire on Indian forward posts along the International Border. The BSF responded with precision targeting.
According to a statement from the BSF, the terrorist launch pad in Looni—reportedly being used to push infiltrators across the border—was completely destroyed during a retaliatory strike in the early hours of Saturday.
“The terrorist launch pad at Looni was completely destroyed,” the BSF said.
“This action demonstrates our clear intent to neutralise any cross-border terror threat. Our troops remain in a high state of alert.”
Video footage and images released by the BSF, also circulated by PTI, show smoke rising from the targeted site in Sialkot, confirming the successful hit. The visuals were captured soon after the retaliatory shelling.
The destruction of the launch pad marks a significant development amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, following recent terror attacks in Pahalgam and missile strikes by Pakistan targeting Indian military bases.
Friday’s ceasefire violation was one of the most intense in recent months, involving heavy mortar shelling and automatic weapon fire on Indian positions.
In response, security forces across Jammu, Samba, and Kathua sectors have been placed on heightened alert, and civilians living in border villages have been advised to remain indoors or move to safe shelters.
A senior BSF officer reiterated the force’s zero-tolerance policy toward cross-border terror activities, stating:
“We will not allow launch pads or infiltrators to function with impunity. Every hostile action will be met with a precise and proportionate response.”
The Indian government is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with the Army and other security agencies to ensure the safety of civilians and the integrity of the nation’s borders.
