New Delhi:Â Britannia Industries has announced the appointment of Urjit Patel, the former RBI governor, as one of the additional Non-Executive Independent Directors on the company’s board for five years.
This was confirmed in an exchange filing on July 2. The appointment is conditional upon board approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting scheduled for August 12, 2024.
Urjit Patel previously served as the 24th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 2016 to 2018. During his tenure, he was a member of the Bank for International Settlements and also served on the Advisory Board of the Financial Stability Institute.
Additionally, Urjit Patel held the position of Deputy Governor at the RBI since January 2013. Between 2013 and 2018, he represented the RBI as a Deputy in the G-20, BRICS Finance Ministers, and Central Bank Governors groups.
Subsequently, from 2022 to 2024, he assumed the role of Vice President (Investment Operations Region 1) at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.
In addition to Urjit Patel’s appointment, Sunil Lalbhai, the Chairman and Managing Director of Atul Limited, will also be joining the Britannia board for a five-year term.
