In a tragic road accident, a young woman who was set to be married next month lost her life while returning after distributing wedding invitation cards in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.

Her brother sustained critical injuries and has been shifted to Burla for advanced treatment.

The accident occurred near Ghusuramunda village under the Jharsuguda Sadar block when the motorcycle they were travelling on reportedly lost balance and crashed into a roadside tree.

Bride-to-Be Dies, Brother Critical

The deceased has been identified as Hirabati Rohidas, daughter of Tulasi Rohidas from Beluapada village in Sundargarh district. Her wedding was scheduled to take place on March 1.

According to reports, Hirabati and her brother Niranjan Rohidas had come to various areas of Jharsuguda to distribute wedding invitation cards. On Tuesday morning, while returning after handing out invitations in Ghusuramunda under Chandanimahal Gram Panchayat, their bike lost control and rammed into a tree.

Both siblings were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jharsuguda in critical condition. Doctors declared Hirabati dead on arrival. Due to the serious nature of his injuries, Niranjan was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, for specialised treatment.

Family in Shock

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the family, as preparations were underway for Hirabati’s wedding. What was meant to be a joyous occasion has turned into a moment of grief for the entire village and relatives.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Preliminary reports suggest that the accident may have occurred after the rider lost control of the motorcycle.
