Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Brahmapur Chief District Agriculture Officer (CDAO) Byomkesh Mishra for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹15,000 bribe from a beneficiary to process a subsidy-related file under the Mukhya Mantri Krushi Udyog Yojana (MKUY).

According to Odisha Vigilance, Mishra was apprehended while allegedly accepting the bribe from the complainant for processing a file related to an integrated farming system and facilitating the release of the subsidy amount.

CDAO allegedly demanded ₹15,000 bribe

As per the Vigilance statement, the beneficiary had been approaching Mishra for nearly two months to get the file processed. The officer allegedly did not process the file despite repeated requests.

Vigilance alleged that Mishra subsequently demanded ₹15,000 from the beneficiary for processing the file and facilitating the release of the subsidy.

The officer also allegedly demanded a fixed percentage of the subsidy amount at the time of its release, according to the complaint.

The beneficiary then approached Odisha Vigilance and reported the alleged demand.

Odisha Vigilance conducts trap operation

Acting on the complaint, a team of Odisha Vigilance conducted a trap operation on Wednesday.

Mishra was allegedly caught while accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. Vigilance said the entire tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized.

The operation was conducted in connection with allegations of bribery involving the processing of the beneficiary’s MKUY-related file.

Searches at three locations

Following the trap, Odisha Vigilance launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Mishra as part of its disproportionate-assets inquiry.

A case has been registered at Brahmapur Vigilance Police Station in connection with the alleged bribery.

According to Vigilance, Brahmapur Vigilance PS Case No. 08 dated August 12, 2026, has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as amended in 2018.

The investigation is currently underway. Further details are awaited.
