In a historic step towards bolstering Odisha’s infrastructure and connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated and laid the foundation stone for key railway projects worth over ₹2,750 crores during a grand event in Bhubaneswar.

The occasion also marked the launch of new train services from Boudh and Purunakatak, connecting Western and Central Odisha to the national rail network like never before.

The Prime Minister’s visit, coinciding with 11 years of transformative governance and a year of progress under the current Odisha government, underscores the Centre’s commitment to realising the vision of Viksit Bharat – Viksit Odisha.

These projects are set to revolutionise freight and passenger movement, spur economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for millions.

Key Railway Projects Launched

  1. Foundation Stone Laid:

    • Sarla–Sason 3rd & 4th Rail Line (16 KM, ₹252 Cr): This project aims to decongest the bustling Jharsuguda-Sambalpur rail section, facilitating smoother industrial operations and freight movement.

  2. Inaugurated:

    • Sonepur–Purunakatak New Railway Line (73 KM, ₹1,376 Cr): A significant milestone in the Khurda Road–Balangir Rail Project, this line connects Boudh District to the national network for the first time, fulfilling a decades-long aspiration of the region’s residents.

  3. Dedicated to the Nation:

    • Freight Train Maintenance Facility with Routine Overhauling at Sarla (₹165 Cr).

    • Subway in the Bamra–Dharuadihi section (₹10 Cr).

    • Link C–Dumetra section (5 KM) of Bondamunda–Ranchi Doubling (₹98 Cr).

    • Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Jaleswar (₹89 Cr).

    • 4th Rail Line between Jharsuguda–Jamga (53 KM), part of the Jharsuguda–Bilaspur Project.

These initiatives enhance operational efficiency, safety, and logistics, paving the way for seamless connectivity across Odisha and beyond.

New Train Services Flagged Off

The Prime Minister also flagged off two new train services, heralding a new era of connectivity for Boudh District:

  • Boudh–Bhubaneswar Weekly Express (18313/18314): Connecting Boudh to the state capital for better access to urban amenities.

  • Sambalpur–Boudh Weekly Express (18311/18312): Strengthening intra-regional connectivity in Western Odisha.

Transformative Impact on Odisha

These projects are more than just infrastructure milestones; they are catalysts for holistic development:

  • Economic Growth: Enhanced freight capacity will boost industrial and SME sectors, creating jobs and stimulating growth.

  • Agricultural Prosperity: Farmers in Boudh and nearby districts will access larger markets, securing better prices and resources.

  • Healthcare and Education: Direct rail links to hubs like Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur will improve access to advanced medical care and educational institutions.

  • Social and Cultural Integration: Improved mobility will foster cultural exchange and community participation, knitting Odisha’s diverse regions closer together.

The event marks a historic moment for Odisha, turning long-pending dreams into reality and reinforcing the state’s pivotal role in India’s journey toward inclusive growth and modernisation.
