Gaganpreet Kaur, the driver of a BMW involved in a fatal crash that claimed the life of Deputy Secretary Navjot Singh of the Union Finance Ministry, was arrested 24 hours after the incident.
The arrest was made at GTB Nagar hospital, where she was being treated for minor injuries.
The crash occurred near Delhi Cantonment metro station while Singh and his wife, Sandeep Kaur, were returning home from Bangla Sahib Gurudwara. Their motorcycle was rear-ended by the speeding BMW, which overturned after impact. Singh died on the spot, while Kaur was critically injured.
Controversy erupted over the decision to transport the victims nearly 19 km to NuLife Hospital in GTB Nagar, bypassing closer medical facilities. Police sources revealed that Gaganpreet’s father is a co-owner of the hospital, raising concerns about a possible attempt to suppress evidence. Her husband, Parikshit Makkad, who was also in the car, has been named in the FIR.
Charges against Gaganpreet include culpable homicide, rash driving, and destruction of evidence. Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the alleged cover-up and the role of hospital authorities.
