In a significant political development, Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition and president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has decided to join national politics against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

This marks the first time the BJD will participate in a national-level meeting against the BJP government.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has extended an invitation to Naveen Patnaik to attend a meeting in Chennai aimed at uniting anti-BJP political parties. The meeting will focus on opposing the National Education Policy and the redrawing of Lok Sabha constituencies.

Senior DMK leaders Dayanidhi Maran and TRB Rajaa visited Naveen Patnaik’s residence to personally convey the invitation from Chief Minister Stalin. Following the meeting, Maran confirmed that the BJD would attend the meeting, scheduled for March 22nd in Chennai, under the banner of the Joint Implementation Committee or Giant Action Committee.

The BJD, which has historically been in alliance with the BJP, has decided to take a stand against the ruling party following the 2024 elections. The party has supported the BJP on various issues in Parliament but has now chosen to join the national opposition.

Chief Ministers of seven states, including Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha, have also been invited to the meeting by Chief Minister Stalin.
