In a major push toward smoother urban mobility, Odisha’s Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan has announced that several key traffic decongestion projects in Bhubaneswar will commence within a month.
Addressing media representatives, Harichandan outlined the government’s ambitious plan to ease traffic bottlenecks by implementing four to five critical infrastructure projects. The initiative includes alignment work on major roadways, with land acquisition nearing completion. The government expects to wrap up preliminary processes by the end of the month, targeting completion of both carriageways by December.
Additionally, the city’s Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan corridor will see all traffic signals removed, with advanced traffic management systems being installed to facilitate seamless vehicular movement. The minister also revealed that the foundation stone for the next phase of decongestion efforts would be laid in June, following the completion of the tendering process.
These projects are part of a broader vision to position Bhubaneswar as a model city for traffic management. Authorities aim to complete the initiatives within the next 2.5 to 3 years, significantly improving commuter convenience and urban transportation efficiency.
