Bhubaneswar is all set to witness the development of its largest-ever convention centre, with a seating capacity of 10,000 people, as part of the Odisha government’s ambitious plan to establish the capital city as a global business and tourism hub.
The Odisha Bridge Construction Corporation (OBCC) has been tasked with implementing the project in Chandrasekharpur under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The centre is expected to host international conferences, exhibitions, and cultural programs, further boosting the city’s profile on the world stage.
RFP Issued for Transaction Advisor
Authorities have floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint a transaction advisor responsible for preparing the detailed project report and overseeing the execution phase of the high-impact infrastructure venture.
Prime Location Near Rail Sadan
The mega facility will be developed on an 18-acre site adjacent to Rail Sadan, the East Coast Railway’s headquarters, offering excellent connectivity via Jaydev Vihar–Nandankanan Road. The land currently occupied by the OMFED plant will be cleared to accommodate the new centre.
Key Features of the Convention Centre
Plans for the world-class facility include:
-
A 4,000-seat plenary hall
-
A 1,200-seat meeting hall and a 500-seat secondary hall
-
Four 100-seat conference rooms
-
An indoor exhibition space spanning 50,000 sq ft
-
An outdoor exhibition zone accommodating up to 30,000 visitors
Additional features will include climate-controlled interiors, ample parking, advanced security systems, and landscaped public zones.
PPP Model to Ensure Quality and Efficiency
The project will be entirely funded by private players, with OBCC spearheading the execution. The PPP approach is expected to ensure state-of-the-art infrastructure, streamlined operations, and world-class design standards.
The initiative follows Bhubaneswar’s growing reputation as a preferred venue for major events, including G20 meetings and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, and marks a key step toward establishing the city as a premier convention destination in Eastern India.
