Infovalley police have arrested Sanjaya Kumar Naik alias Baloon (23) in connection with a violent robbery case registered on September 1.
The accused was caught near Badaraghunathpur Chhak while riding the stolen Honda CB Shine motorcycle.
According to police, complainant Sujit Kumar Das, an MBA student residing at G‑Next Valley, was returning from Gohira Chhak on August 31 around 9:15 PM when the accused sought a lift. Near Amrita Vidyalayam, the accused allegedly attacked Das with a knife, causing injuries to his head, jaw, back, and abdomen, before fleeing with the bike. The victim was later treated at Jatani Hospital.
Following intensive checks, police intercepted Naik during a vehicle inspection and recovered the stolen motorcycle. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Records show he is a habitual offender with four prior cases of attempted murder and dacoity registered at Nuagaon police station in Nayagarh district.
Police have formally arrested Naik and produced him in court. Investigation into the case is continuing.
