A reckless street race in Bhubaneswar’s Patrapada area on Raksha Bandhan led to the death of 35-year-old Rebati Raul and her 8-year-old daughter, Reshma.
The incident occurred when a Mahindra Thar SUV, allegedly overspeeding, rammed into the victims while racing alongside a Scorpio.
Police have arrested Ankit Sahu, the 22-year-old Scorpio driver from Gangapada, Khordha, along with his associate Krushnachandra Pradhan. The Mahindra Thar was later traced to Jatni and seized, but its driver remains untraced, fueling public frustration over the pace of the investigation.
Rebati’s son, who was also injured, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The Odisha government has announced an ex gratia of Rs 8 lakh for the bereaved family. Despite the gesture, citizens continue to demand swift justice and accountability.
