Bhubaneswar Cyber Police arrested Rajendra Singh (31) of Mayurbhanj for his role in a large-scale online credit card fraud case.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by 69-year-old Chidananda Rao Gaur, a retired Indian Bank employee, who lost Rs 9,00,034 after falling prey to a fake credit card advertisement on Facebook in March 2025.
Investigators revealed that fraudsters tricked Gaur into downloading a fake application called IND Smart via WhatsApp. Once installed, the app siphoned money from his two bank accounts. Cyber Police traced Rs 5,00,000 of the stolen amount to Singh’s IDBI Bank account, which was being used as a mule account.
Further inquiry showed Singh had handed over his passbook, ATM card, and identity documents to cyber criminals for just Rs 6,000. He also opened five additional accounts to facilitate illegal transactions. Records indicate that over Rs 15 lakh was routed through these accounts from Odisha, Assam, Delhi, and Gujarat.
Police seized Singh’s bank documents and ATM cards. He was arrested on August 21, 2026, and produced in court the following day. Authorities confirmed that the investigation continues to identify and apprehend the masterminds behind the cyber fraud network.
