Bhitarkanika National Park, one of Odisha’s premier ecotourism destinations, is all set to reopen its lush trails and mangrove waterways to tourists starting August 1.
After a three-month closure to facilitate the breeding of saltwater crocodiles, the park is now primed to welcome wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers back to its serene habitat.
Located in the Kendrapara district, Bhitarkanika is renowned for its dense mangrove forests, rare species of white crocodiles, migratory birds, and thrilling boat rides along tidal rivers. Tourists can also enjoy skywalks over lush greenery and immersive nature experiences.
The Forest Department has completed extensive preparations to ensure a smooth visitor experience. Conservation efforts during the breeding season—spanning May to July—were crucial to protecting the nesting sites of crocodiles, minimising human interference.
With the park’s reopening, local stakeholders—including boat hotels, travel operators, and guides—are gearing up for a boost in tourism. Enthusiasm is high among travellers and conservationists alike.
As Odisha continues to promote sustainable tourism, Bhitarkanika stands as a symbol of harmony between ecological preservation and immersive travel experiences
