A late-night quarrel over contract work escalated into gunfire near Dayanidhi Chhak in Bhawanipatna, leaving one youth narrowly escaping injury.
Police reported that three youths were initially detained for questioning. Following the investigation, officers arrested Yashobanta Nayak of BBC Pada, Bhawanipatna, for firing a blank shot during the altercation.
The dispute began when Yashobanta pointed a gun at another youth’s head during the heated argument. A companion raised the weapon upward, leading to a blank fire that startled bystanders. The bullet discharged into the air, sparking panic in the area.
Town police quickly reached the spot and launched an inquiry. Investigators discovered two illegal firearms in Yashobanta’s possession. Officers confirmed his arrest and produced him in court after completing preliminary interrogation.
Police emphasised their commitment to curbing illegal firearms and warned that strict action will follow against anyone involved in violent disputes. The incident highlighted rising concerns over contract work disputes turning violent in the region.
