The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) marked its 43rd Foundation Day with the inauguration of a modern park and playground at K9B in Kalinga Vihar, a significant step toward enhancing urban recreational spaces.

The facilities, inaugurated by Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister for Housing & Urban Development and Public Enterprises and Chairman of BDA, reflect the authority’s commitment to sustainable urban development.

Spanning 2.3 acres, the new playground is complemented by a 1.36-acre park, developed at a combined cost of ₹5.5 crore. The facilities boast state-of-the-art amenities, including an open gym, yoga pindi, walking track, toilets, changing rooms, sprinkler irrigation with an underground reservoir, and a secure compound wall. BDA officials revealed that 20 similar playgrounds are under development across Bhubaneswar at a total cost of ₹98 crore, with 19 nearing completion.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of distinguished guests, including Smt. Sulochana Das, Mayor of Bhubaneswar, Babu Singh, MLA of Bhubaneswar Ekamra, Smt. Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Housing & Urban Development, and Dr. N. Thirumala Naik, Vice Chairman of BDA.

Later, the Foundation Day celebrations continued at Jaydev Bhawan, where Dr. Mahapatra, as Chief Guest, emphasised the need for strategic urban planning to accommodate Bhubaneswar’s rapid growth. He urged enhanced collaboration between authorities and citizens to expand the city’s green cover, improve drainage and sewerage systems, and transform Bhubaneswar into a world-class urban hub.

Mayor Sulochana Das highlighted BDA’s role in fostering inclusivity and tackling climate change challenges, while MLA Babu Singh called for prioritised housing projects to address the needs of the city’s homeless population. Dr. Naik reaffirmed BDA’s dedication to sustainable development, and Samir Mohanty, President of the BDA Karmachari United Forum, raised the demand for a pension scheme for BDA employees.

The event also featured the unveiling of BDA’s Annual Report by Dr. Mahapatra. Smt. Snigdharani Dhal, Additional Commissioner (Establishment) of BDA, concluded the program with a vote of thanks.
