Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has launched redevelopment projects for two key crematoriums in the Old Town area—Kaligadia and Garabadu.
Ekamra MLA Shri Babu Singh laid the foundation stones today, marking a significant step toward improving last rite facilities in the city.
BDA will invest ₹2.21 crore in Kaligadia and ₹1.85 crore in Garabadu to upgrade infrastructure and create a more dignified space for families. The redevelopment plans include:
- Parking areas and boundary walls
- Security kiosks and staff rooms
- Caretaker rooms and gender-specific changing rooms
- Waiting halls, pyre wood storage, and cremation platforms (pindis)
To enhance the environment, BDA will also develop water bodies, internal pathways, peripheral drains, and landscaped zones—ensuring a clean, green, and peaceful setting.
Local Corporators, BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi, and senior officials attended the ceremony. BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana urged residents to support the timely completion of the projects and announced the development of another modern crematorium at Dumuduma.
These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to building accessible, respectful, and well-maintained spaces for final rites. As Bhubaneswar evolves as a Smart City, BDA continues to align infrastructure with compassion and civic dignity.
