The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced major changes for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 mega auction.
Franchises can now retain up to five players, including a maximum of three capped Indian players and two overseas players. At least one retained player must be an uncapped Indian.
BCCI introduced the Right-to-Match (RTM) card, allowing teams to reclaim players they previously released. The number of RTM cards available depends on how many players a team retains. For example, retaining four players gives a team one RTM card, while retaining only two allows three RTMs.
The auction purse is set at ₹15 crore. Retaining five players deducts ₹9.25 crore from the purse. The slabs include ₹3.5 crore for Player 1, ₹2.5 crore for Player 2, ₹1.75 crore for Player 3, ₹1 crore for Player 4, and ₹50 lakh for Player 5.
Franchises must submit their retention lists by November 5. Player registration closes on November 18. The auction will take place in India, with the final venue to be confirmed soon.
Franchise officials welcomed the RTM card system, calling it a strategic tool to maintain team balance. The WPL 2025 mega auction promises intense bidding and tactical decisions as teams aim to build competitive squads.
