The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is exploring ways to compensate Jasprit Bumrah after the latest annual player contracts reduced his earnings by Rs 2 crore.
Bumrah, who continues to play across all formats, was placed in Grade A along with Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja in the 2025-26 contracts.
The board recently scrapped the A+ category, which earlier guaranteed Rs 7 crore annually. Under the new structure, Grade A players receive Rs 5 crore, Grade B players Rs 3 crore, and Grade C players Rs 1 crore. Bumrah’s demotion from A+ to A means a direct loss of Rs 2 crore.
According to reports, BCCI officials acknowledged the unfairness of the cut and said they are working on a mechanism to compensate Bumrah. “It will be unfair to slash his fees from Rs 7 crore to Rs 5 crore. The board is trying to figure out how he can be compensated,” a source said.
The contracts of other players, including Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant, have also been downgraded. Patel’s placement in Grade C may be revisited, sources added.
