A late-night fire incident in Khallikote’s Nuasahi left a family shaken after a battery-powered scooter caught fire during charging.
As flames spread rapidly, they reached a nearby gas tank, which exploded with a deafening blast.
Immediately, the fire engulfed the three-storey house, alarming neighbors who rushed to help. Within minutes, the blaze consumed valuable items including a television, tailoring machine, furniture, and clothing. The estimated loss crossed several lakhs.
Fortunately, firefighters and police arrived quickly. They worked together to control the flames and safely evacuate all 11 family members trapped inside. Their swift response prevented any casualties.
Meanwhile, the incident raised serious concerns about indoor charging of electric vehicles near flammable materials. Locals expressed shock over the explosion and urged authorities to promote fire safety awareness.
Officials began investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the structural damage. They also plan to review safety protocols for battery-operated vehicles in residential areas.
Ajit Mohanty’s family is currently receiving support from neighbors and local officials. Despite the material loss, the community feels relieved that no lives were lost.
As electric vehicles become more common, experts recommend proper charging setups and safe distances from combustible items. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved and the importance of preventive measures.
