A shocking act of violence has left a family in turmoil after a man brutally attacked his wife and two children in Dahamunda village, Uttar Bhograi, Balasore district.
The accused, identified as Paltu Jena, reportedly turned violent late Sunday night, using a sharp axe to assault his ailing wife and two unidentified children before fleeing.
Local residents discovered the victims in a critical condition and rushed them to Kamarda Health Centre. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital and eventually to SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.
Reports suggest that Jena’s wife had been suffering from spinal issues for a long period, rendering her almost immobile. Financial distress, coupled with mounting medical expenses, allegedly led to frequent disputes within the household. The suspect, described by neighbours as a man without any prior criminal record, had been under immense mental and emotional strain.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for Jena while continuing their investigation. The incident has sparked widespread discussions on financial hardship, mental health, and domestic violence in rural Odisha.
