All Opposition parties under the INDI Alliance have unanimously nominated former Supreme Court judge B Sudarshan Reddy as their candidate for the Vice Presidential elections.
The announcement was made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, signalling a strategic move to consolidate democratic values and judicial integrity at the highest levels of governance.
Justice Reddy, 78, brings with him a distinguished legal career spanning over four decades. Born on July 8, 1946, he began his legal journey in 1971 with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh. His tenure includes roles as government pleader in the Andhra Pradesh High Court (1988–1990), legal adviser to Osmania University, and additional standing counsel for the Centre.
He was appointed a permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 1995 and later elevated as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in 2005. His judicial career culminated with his appointment to the Supreme Court of India in January 2007, where he served until his retirement in July 2011.
The ruling NDA has fielded Maharashtra Governor and senior RSS functionary CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate. Radhakrishnan, a former BJP Tamil Nadu unit president, was announced as the NDA’s pick on Sunday.
The upcoming election is expected to be a closely watched contest, with both candidates representing significant legal and political legacies.
