In a defining moment for India’s space journey, the successful launch of the Axiom-4 Mission has catapulted the nation’s stature to new heights.

The mission features Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla as its mission pilot, part of a four-member international crew bound for the International Space Station (ISS).

Leading the celebrations during a live screening in New Delhi, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hailed the mission as a “symbol of Viksit Bharat” and fulfilment of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai’s dream. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bold space reforms for transforming India into a formidable global player in space exploration.

Shukla’s historic voyage is more than ceremonial—he carries indigenous scientific kits designed by Indian institutions, including IITs, IISc, and the Department of Biotechnology. The mission’s highlight is a biotech experiment involving edible microalgae, known for their potential in future deep-space missions due to its rich nutritional profile.

The spacecraft is scheduled to dock with the ISS on June 26. This initiative not only underscores India’s scientific prowess but also aligns with the nation’s broader aspirations under the Gaganyaan program and long-term space sustainability goals.

In the words of Dr. Singh, “India has transitioned from a technology follower to a respected global partner in space endeavours.” With Axiom-4, the nation reaffirms its position as a frontline innovator in the global space community.
