A major accident occurred at Jarau Ghat in Ganjam district when an auto rickshaw lost balance, hit an electric pole, and fell nearly 10 feet down the slope.
The mishap left 12 passengers injured, including five in critical condition.
According to reports, parents from four villages had hired four auto rickshaws to take their children to an Ashram school in Gadgad. One of the vehicles overturned while negotiating the ghat road, leading to the accident.
Emergency services responded quickly. Ambulances from Badagad and Mohana reached the spot and rescued the injured. All victims were admitted to Badagad Medical, while five critically injured passengers were shifted to Berhampur Medical College for advanced treatment.
Among the injured were three women and two students. Police from Mohana station arrived at the accident site and began an investigation into the circumstances that led to the crash.
