The Confiscation Court (Authorised Officer, Special Court), Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, has ordered the confiscation of disproportionate assets belonging to Nirakar Rout, Former Senior Geologist of the Remote Sensing Division, Bhubaneswar.
The order, passed today, includes both immovable and movable properties—specifically, a building and a homestead plot located at Jajpur Road in Jajpur district, along with substantial bank deposits.
Sri Rout had earlier been charge-sheeted under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code for possessing assets grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Odisha Vigilance had initiated proceedings after uncovering significant anomalies in his financial records.
Following a detailed trial, Rout was convicted on February 5, 2018, by the Special Judge, Special Court, Bhubaneswar. The court found him guilty of amassing wealth beyond his legal income, a violation that led to today’s confiscation order.
This action marks a significant step in Odisha’s ongoing crackdown on corruption within government departments. The Vigilance Department continues to pursue cases against officials found guilty of financial misconduct, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accountability.
